Welcome to WESA

Arts Integration

At WESA, we take an arts integrated approach to teach the Colorado State Standards. We are a member of the Pikes Peak Arts Integrative Collaborative and a Kennedy Center Partner in Education and use the Kennedy Center’s Definition of Arts Integration. WESA offers several unique specials and offerings to include: visual art, music, drama, P.E., library, design studio, band and strings (4th & 5th grade), and an all school musical. The school also offers several clubs to include: drama, art, lego robotics, running club, dance, and coding. Lastly, WESA also values arts for art's sake and seeks to give students opportunities to experience the arts by going to plays, concerts, and museums when possible.

MUSIC

WESA students will meet Colorado Music Standards by exploring elements of music through singing, playing, instruments, and performance.

ART

Students will learn different art vocabulary, explore different art mediums, and learn about artists and art history.

DRAMA

In drama, K-3 students will focus on acting elements and 4-5 grade students will build upon what they've learned by learning about different jobs in the theatre.

Mission Statement: Widefield Elementary School of the Arts PBIS initiative is to create and reinforce a positive learning environment for all students to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Widefield Elementary School of the Arts PBIS strives to fashion a safe academic culture, where students can learn and grow. We do this in the following ways:

Our expectations, interventions and consequences are clear and consistent
We gather and analyze behavior data
We promote positive behavior through individual and classroom incentives
WESA staff works together to cultivate a positive school culture
We strive to create and maintain relationships with students, parents, and our community
We use research-based practices to support PBIS initiatives

What is PBIS?

PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports. "PBIS is a prevention-based framework for organizing evidence-based behavioral supports into an integrated continuum that enhances academic and social outcomes for all students" (CDE.state, 2022). Fundamentally, PBIS uses data, systems, and practices to produce behavior prevention outcomes. These outcomes fashion a safe environment for all students to learn and grow academically, socially, and emotionally. PBIS is evidence-based. Rewarding positive behavior promotes positive choices.

Know what is Right

Students who demonstrate BARKing Bulldog behavior receive a purple ticket. Daily, students turn their purple tickets into the office. Every Friday, purple tickets are drawn for prizes.
